For everyone else: KDSS stands for Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System, and it is the option that separates a real TRD Off-Road 4Runner from one wearing the badge. It is a hydraulic system that disconnects the sway bars when the suspension articulates off pavement, giving you dramatically more wheel travel over rocks and ruts, then quietly reconnects them so the truck does not wallow on the highway. Toyota did not put it on every 4Runner. It is on this one.

Seventeen by seven and a half inch seven spoke unique off road alloy wheels, which is the right size for a truck you might actually air down. Behind them, a 3.727 rear axle.

The 4.0 liter V6 and five speed automatic are old school on paper and that is exactly the point. This is the last generation of body on frame Toyota SUV built the way Land Cruisers used to be built, and the resale numbers reflect what people think of it.
